The OST is the International Trade Fair for orthopaedic footwear.
This year on the 20. and 21. October 2017 in Cologne, Germany.
Samuel and Christoph Welter experienced two very interesting days in Cologne meeting with many colleagues in the field of orthopaedic shoe making from all over the world and attended many discussions on the latest knowledge in orthopaedic shoe making and orthotics.
Companies from all regions of the world showed both the tried and tested materials and the newest materials to the market and how to use them to their optimum.
Technical news e.g 3-D printing was one point of focus for Welter’s this year.
It was sobering to discover that as of yet, the state of the art machinery could not produce items for orthopaedic footwear suitable to the needs of a wearer. The way Welter’s make orthotics and surgrical handmde shoes i.e. from scratch and by hand, is the absolutely right way to get the best results for our customers.
Another focus point was the discussion about organic and vegan materials for shoe manufacturing.
This was a very interesting and highly discussed topic, among young colleagues and suppliers. with many young people tracking this subject on social media. For Welter’s this is an important focus and one which we will be keeping a keen eye on as it develops.
We can conclude that the OST was a good win in ideas and experiences and the most important thing : exchange with colleagues for the best practice for our customers
